A city in north-western France, Finistère department (Brittany).
It was established in the 12th century from the foundation of the church as one of the few in this region. The inhabitants were farmers, especially in the cultivation of flax and hemp. In the 15th century, Penhoat castle was built, and in the 16th and 17th century the brick church along with other parish buildings. In 1998, the church was destroyed by fire, but it was rebuilt completely. Furthermore, they survived to our times, among others, the historic houses from the 15th century, ruins of the castle and chapel of St. Bridget of Sweden from the 17th century.
Nowadays, the city is developing and the number of inhabitants is growing. Another factor conducive to good communication – railway and express road. The main activities of the population include crafts and farming. To protect interests, craftsmen, farmers and traders are grouped in associations. In the city, among others, a primary school, middle school and library operate. In addition, associations of culture and cultural heritage, sport, recreation and social assistance are very active. The municipality participates in the campaign of the Office of Breton Language, which promotes the Breton language in the everyday life of the population, until recently a disappearing tongue.
