City of Mielec

Situated on the Wisłoka River in south-eastern Poland in Subcarpathian region, Mielec is proud of its more than 500-year history. The city has around 61 thousand inhabitants. From the second half of the 19th century it became a regional centre for socio-economic development. Two industrial sectors had a particular impact on the city’s growth – aviation and automotive industry.

The local WSK Mielec produced, among others, airplanes, cars and equipment for the automotive industry. After the crisis in the early 90s, due to political changes, thanks to the development of Poland’s first Special Economic Zone EURO-PARK Mielec and the restructuring of the industry of Mielec, it is now once again a dynamically growing industrial centre. In sold production of industry it is the clear leader in the Podkarpacie region and second (following Kraków) in south-eastern Poland.

The aviation industry remains the flagship of Mielec in Poland and the world. Here, Polskie Zakłady Lotnicze (Polish Aviation Works) are located, the largest company in this sector in Poland and one of the largest in Europe.
