Przecław

Zamek w Przecławiu

Przecław (15 km) – Renaissance castle Ligęzów from the first half of the 16th century (in the opinion of Henryk Sienkiewicz it is a jewel among the preserved castles of the former Republic, hidden in the green forests of Sandomierz Forest). At the end of the 16th century it was rebuilt by Ligęzowie and Koniecpolscy. Expanded by the Reys in the years 1870-1882, it became the second museum-residence on Polish soil (after the Isabella Czartoryski Palace in Puławy). At the end of the 20th century it was restored by the aviation works PZL-Mielec. It continues to serve public good according to the 19th century idea of Count Mieczysław Rey. For 135 years the castle’s interiors have been accessible to the public. In the basement are stone and stone-brick foundations dating back to the years 1518-1529, a corridor and two cellars with arched vaults. On the first floor there are chambers, as well as a tower, loggia, terrace and turret. On the ground floor rooms, as well as a chamber overlooking the northern part of the hill, where since the 13th century stood a hunting castle of Kraków-Sandomierz princes (this old wooden building, which existed for almost a century and a half until the “deluge” next to the new castle, was burned down in 1656 by Swedish armies). Next to the castle courtyard a historic outbuilding. Around it is a 10-hectare English park founded in the 16th-17th centuries, maintained by the Koniecpolski, Tarnowski and Rey families. The Przecław castle and park complex is one of the most precious historic sites of the Mielec and Podkarpacie region.
